Crime definitely seems to be rampant throughout our culture. Different people have different views on how it can be reduced and/or eliminated. A lot depends on what part of the country you are talking about. There are no crime free zones. Crime seems to be equally distributed. Whether or not you have been a victim of crime, there’s always a possibility it can happen again.

How can you protect yourself when you travel? Or live in a dorm or apartment? Easy. Get a personal alarm that is portable. There are many on the market. Here are just a few options:

  • Door Handle Alarm: These are especially good when traveling. Just hang them on the door knob on the inside of the door. All it takes is for someone to barely touch it and it will suddenly emit 90db of sound, just enough to care someone away and alert anyone in the immediate vicinity that there is an intruder. Some alarms give you the option to see a flashing light instead of hearing the alarm. I personally feel safer hearing the alarm.
  • Door Stop Alarm: All you do is slide it under the inside of the door. It is motion sensitive and when someone tries to open your door, it has a 125db alarm, which, of course will send the intruder running. There is also a movement sensor. In other words, if someone tries to move it to another location, it will be activated immediately. It’s inexpensive, easy to carry and store and easy to use. In case you are worried about it going off accidentally, it has an on/off switch that keeps that from happening.
  • Key Chain Alarm: This is a good choice because you have it with you at all times. All you have to do is push a button and it will immediately sound a 120db alarm. Most have flashlights built in.The Mini Travel Alarm is effective and inexpensive. Just pull the alarm cord and it emits a 100db sound. It will detect motion as far away as 9 feet.
  • Mini Travel Alarm: The Mini Travel Alarm is effective and inexpensive. Just pull the alarm cord and it emits 100 db alarm. It will detect motion as far away as 9 feet. It starts detecting motion within 60 seconds after the switch is turned to auto.

All of the above products are available, easy to carry, easily accessible and inexpensive. There are many other self defense products available also. The important thing is that you take action and make sure you can protect yourself if you find yourself in an unsafe situation.

Safety isn’t expensive, it’s Priceless!
